This album represents a body of work begun in the fall of 2010, when I began to tour the country offering concerts, mostly in living rooms, of my cello music and some of my favorite poems. I began to realize how in many cases I appreciated the poem even more when there was a thread of music running through it. Over the course of the next several months, as I traveled, I gathered more poems from my favorite poets and I created soundtracks that could bring out the significance of the poem, to me, even more than on the page. In September of 2011, I was fortunate to visit my friend, Tim Britton, of Fairfield, IA, a masterful producer and engineer, as well as a musical collaborator from earlier times. He helped me to complete the process of getting these works recorded, taking a fine creative interest in the quality of each track, and by the end of the month, the album was complete - to my amazement! On the album I have two poems from Kabir, two from Rumi, two from Mary Oliver, and then a poem each from four of my favorite American poets, Jane Kenyon, Billy Collins, William Stafford, and Naomi Shaihab Nye. Each of these poets I would love to create a whole evening to celebrate their work, but for now, this is where I begin. I hope you enjoy this creation - it has been so deeply satisfying in the making....
